Bridging Minds, Building Futures

At GracePhilo, we guide students applying to UK schools through personalised interview guidance – and continue to support those already studying in the UK with thoughtful academic planning, reflection and personal development.

 Mission

Beyond Admissions, Towards Identity

In many families, a student's life path is something that has been planned, not chosen. Some young people lose their voice under high pressure; others drift in the absence of direction, in all their freedom, quietly lose sight of what gives them meaning.

We have met those students, intelligent, kind, and full of potential – yet rarely asked :

''Who am I?''

''What do I truly care and love about?''

''What kind of person do I want to become?''

What we hope to offer is a form of connection, supporting students at critical turning points, from school transitions to life decisions, helping them build inner confidence, present themselves with integrity, and make choices that truly belong to them.

About

Grace Shan

I was born and raised in Shanghai (China), where I attended a competitive state school before moving to the UK to complete my GCSEs and A-levels. I later graduated from one of Britain’s leading independent schools, with a long history dating back more than four centuries, which places a strong emphasis on whole-person education. I am now continuing pursuing my degree in Education at university.

My passion lies in education and philosophy – not just as academic subjects, but as tools to understand people and help them grow.

📚 Academic Background:

  • GCSEs: 11 subjects, including seven 9s and two 8s; Additional Maths A; HPQ

  • A-levels: Mathematics, Philosophy and Theology, Spanish, and EPQ

🎓 Awards & Achievements:

    - In-school Prizes

  • 🏆 The Salopian Award –  for all-round participation and character

  • 🧮 David Harrison Mathematics Prize

  • ❤️ The Charity Prize

  • 🎓 School Prefect

    - External Prizes / Qualifications

  • 🌟 UKMT and BPhO Competition Awards

  • 📜 ILM Level 2 Leadership Certificate

🤝 My Experience:

I have worked closely with students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds, including:

  • Tutoring for Chinese students

  • Mentoring for UK independent school students

  • Academic support for UK state school pupils – volunteering and working with primary and middle school students

  • Homework Club volunteer – supporting refugee and underrepresented learners with schoolwork

  • Summer school teaching assistant – helping international students integrate and grow in both study and daily life

🔍Some Thoughts:

Having experienced both the Chinese and British education systems, I know what it feels like to stand between two cultures — to struggle, to adapt, and to grow.

I went through the journey of applying to UK schools, and later faced the challenge of adjusting to a new environment, rediscovering my confidence, and learning how to be at ease with who I am.

While academic results and school offers are important, I believe that true education also means helping young people explore their values, discover what they love, and develop the ability to think deeply and live with purpose.

Our Offerings

Impact

Events

We will host free online group sessions to create a welcoming space for open discussion and shared experiences. Through these events, you can:

  • Hear honest conversations about UK school life, interviews, and cultural adaptation.

  • Join Q&A sessions with inspiring peers who share real journeys and practical tips.

  • Reflect on insights and feelings, while connecting with others on similar paths.

All sessions are free of charge, and participants will be notified via email or website.

Charity

We believe education is not just about individual success – it is also about responsibility, empathy, and connection, giving back and creating opportunities for others.

Every six months, 10% of all earnings (after basic website maintenance costs) will be donated to Donate to charity online - UNICEF UK , supporting children living in poverty, conflict zones, and post-disaster areas — those who lack access to quality learning but deserve the chance to change their lives.

This is a personal act of support and is not affiliated with UNICEF or any of its official fundraising programs.
